The carrying of a basket on the heads is an iconic image seen across the African continent and many developing countries around the world. A basket is a form of transportation for goods and commodities used by young children and adults alike to earn a living or for the carrying of everyday objects.
This same technique was used in the Victorian era to improve the posture of young women, which was achieved by balancing books or teacups on their head while walking, standing up and sitting down.
This tradition has been passed on from generation to generation and still can be seen as a way of life across Lagos one of Africa's biggest city.
